Lightweight columns with EPS
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Radboud University is getting a new building. The Maria Montessori building will be a contemporary and at the same time relaxed work/study location.
microbeton produced a total of 844 lightweight columns with EPS core. The columns of this building were conceived and designed in traditional concrete. After calculations, the execution in traditional concrete proved to be very heavy. This meant that heavier anchors and smaller elements had to be taken into account. The contractor eventually chose to have the elements executed in ferrocement, which made it possible to have larger elements and to combine styles. meaning, fewer and lighter anchorage points were needed.
